These homemade Anti-Inflammatory Remedy Cubes are a simple way to prepare a concentrated blend of fresh ginger, turmeric, lemon, and other wholesome ingredients. Freeze the mixture into small cubes, then add one to warm water or tea whenever you want a flavorful drink.
Ingredients
- 1 large piece fresh ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
- 1 piece fresh turmeric, peeled and chopped, or 1–2 teaspoons turmeric powder
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 orange, peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon honey, optional
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup water or coconut water
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients
Wash the ginger, turmeric, lemon, and orange thoroughly.
Peel the ginger and turmeric if using fresh turmeric. Chop them into smaller pieces so they blend more easily.
Juice the lemon and set the juice aside.
2. Blend Everything
Add the ginger, turmeric, orange, lemon juice, black pepper, cinnamon, and water to a high-speed blender.
Blend for approximately 30–60 seconds, or until the mixture is as smooth as possible.
If the mixture is too thick to blend comfortably, add another small splash of water.
3. Strain if Desired
For smoother cubes, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer.
Press the pulp gently with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible.
You can also leave the mixture unstrained if you prefer a more concentrated, pulpy texture.
4. Add Honey
If you want some sweetness, stir in the honey after blending.
Honey is optional, so you can leave it out if you prefer a less sweet mixture.
5. Fill the Ice Cube Tray
Pour the mixture carefully into a clean ice cube tray.
Do not fill the compartments completely because the liquid will expand slightly as it freezes.
Place the tray in the freezer and freeze for approximately 4–6 hours, or until completely solid.
6. Store the Cubes
Once frozen, remove the cubes from the tray and transfer them to a freezer-safe container or zip-top freezer bag.
Label the container with the date.
For the best flavor, use the cubes within approximately 1 month.
How to Use the Cubes
Add one frozen cube to a mug and pour over hot or warm water.
Allow it to melt completely, then stir well before drinking.
You can also add a cube to:
- Warm tea
- Herbal tea
- Smoothies
- Sparkling water
- Warm lemon water
For a stronger drink, use two cubes.
Helpful Tips
Fresh ginger: Fresh ginger gives the cubes a stronger, fresher flavor than powdered ginger.
Fresh turmeric: Fresh turmeric creates a vibrant color and earthy flavor, although turmeric powder works well too.
Black pepper: A small amount provides extra flavor and is commonly paired with turmeric.
Be careful with turmeric: Fresh turmeric can stain countertops, clothing, utensils, and plastic containers.
Adjust the flavor: If the mixture tastes too strong, dilute it with more water when serving.
Important Note
These cubes can be a convenient food or beverage preparation, but they should not be considered a treatment or cure for inflammation or any medical condition. Evidence for individual ingredients varies, and food-based amounts are not equivalent to medicinal doses.
If you take medication or have a medical condition, particularly one affected by turmeric, ginger, or citrus, check with a healthcare professional before using concentrated amounts regularly.
Storage
Keep the finished cubes frozen until ready to use. Discard them if they develop an unusual smell, taste, or appearance.
Yield: Approximately 12–18 cubes, depending on the size of your ice cube tray.
